The company’s in-house multimedia production, BeUnrivaled Productions together with Sine Cordillera and its other partners, will be mentoring Communication Art students from the U.C. College of Arts and Sciences.

This partnership will help both parties gain a new perspective on growth as they embark on a meaningful journey full of learning opportunities.

During their internship, interns will work with the BeUnrivaled team and Prime Event Productions Philippines on the fourth Man of the World edition as well as other marketing endeavors.

Due to the series of events that will precede the pageant’s final show on June 18, 2022, this project requires a larger workforce. For almost 3 years, on-site internship programs were halted and were only limited to virtual workspaces.

A partnership like this showcases the professional growth of the company, helping teach and develop new employees can motivate existing ones and reinvigorate their passion and work ethic, and most importantly increase effective leadership within the team.

Executive Committees and volunteers led by Ms. Jianlin D. Floresca, the CEO of Ray Casa Group of Companies met this morning at the YMCA Function Hall on the 30th day of May 2022 to discuss the preparation for the Man of the World Pageant that will be held this 18th of June 2022 in Baguio City Convention Center.

In Collaboration with Director Kneil Harley, Production Director of the event, the Be Unrivaled Productions under Ray-Casa Group of Companies is in charge of producing the 4th Edition Man of the World Pageant. During the Orientation, local Dancers and performers in the city were asked to have an audition, in preparation for the performances during the event proper. Committees composed of different volunteers and representatives, from different organizations and universities specifically, student interns from the University of the Cordilleras, Benguet State University, University of Baguio, Baguio City Street Dance Company, and other volunteers in the Region, have given tasks in contribution for the success of the event.

Man of the World Pageant is composed of 40 candidates from 40 different countries manifesting Masculinity with Responsibility. They will be competing to be crowned as the next Man of the World as they are to be conquered by the Mountains of the Cordilleras. This event takes place in promoting tourism as well as introducing the rich culture in the region.

Highlighted by Ms. Jianlin D. Floresca, the promotion of tourism in the region doesn’t just focus on introducing its beauty, but is more likely to promote the companies’ objective of introducing job opportunities to locals living in far areas in the Cordilleras. The Man of the World Pageant opens up chances in promoting the Cordilleras culture globally, for locals’ exposure to gaining the sustainable livelihood they deserve.

25-year-old Jonel Tejedo was born with cerebral palsy. He sells pugo, balut and chicharon to finance his studies. Brigada

The sad truth is that not everyone is born with a silver spoon and can have the money for all the commodities they want in life! But it is told that an individual’s poverty and disability should not be a reason to not win in life. Indeed, we may not be able to alter some realities, but we can adjust to circumstances in order to succeed.

Meet 25-year-old Jonel M. Tejedo, a Person with Disability (PWD) who was born with cerebral palsy. He is a BS Hospitality Management student at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) in Baguio City.

His household is needy and he has a disability, but despite this, he is inclined to do everything to finish his schooling and help alleviate his parents’ burdens.

To help finance his tuition, the hard-working student sells ‘itlog-pugo’, ‘balut’, and ‘chicharon’ after class and even roams the streets of Baguio every night.

Recently, Tejedo went viral after his photo was shared by Maria Michelle Awing-Tauli on Facebook showing the young student still wearing a university uniform while carrying a basket full of ‘itlog-pugo’ in one hand while grabbing a plastic bag full of ‘chicharon’ in his other hand, circling the city establishments hoping that someone would purchase his products.

“Was so speechless when I saw him. I admire him for his act. May the young generation imitate his perseverance… He came from school and need to roam around to sell balot pugo and chicharon. The road may be long and bumpy but the success is still at the end of the road.” Awing-Tauli wrote in her post.

The post garnered over 1.1K shares and over 3K reactions to this writing. Many netizens respected and expressed their regard for the diligent student asserting it was great that he is performing his best to finance his studies rather than just offering blank envelopes to passersby expecting alms.

Netizens were amazed at Jonel’s diligence and perseverance saying:

Tejedo did grow up with a disability and not privileged, but he demonstrated that having the motivation, determination, and grit to finish his studies by being a working student is possible.

Update 1( January 21, 2021): OIC Danilo B. Bose meets with Jonel Tejedo at CHED CAR office

Heeding the concern of CHED Chairman Popoy de Vera, through Deputy Executive Director Atty Lily Freida Milla, OIC Danilo BOse invited Jonel to the Commission on Higher Education-Cordillera Administrative Region Office on January 18, 2021.

Several concerns were discussed that include his future plans, how CHED can help him best, especially in his studies, and what is the best course for him to undertake given his expertise and interest. Jonel was a CHED Tulong Dunong grantee.

Unfortunately, he is not enrolled for this school year due to the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meet and greet ended up with OIC Bose purchasing Jonel’s chicharon and balut products.

At present, Jonel roams around La Trinidad to sell balut and chicharon to support his family.

Update 2 ( January 25, 2021): Jonel was robbed

Jonel Tejedo was ransacked by four unidentified men around 9 on the night of Monday, January 18, 2021, around Longlong, La Trinidad, Benguet. (The night after visiting CHED CAR)

He was allegedly robbed of more than PHP 3,000, including his radio and cellphone given to him by veteran journalist Jessica Soho.

“Sa aking 27 years in the reserve, very challenging sya. Bilang volunteer, minsan niri-risk mo yung buhay mo at minsan magrerespond ka ng walang wala. As a reservist, tutulong ka na wala kang ine-expect in return. Kung nandon talaga ang puso mo at yung pagmamahal sa kapwa, magagampanan mo ang dapat mong gawin.”

This is the statement from Alexander Tumapang when asked about his volunteer duty in the reserve force of the Philippine Army.

1st Lt. Alexander Tumapang is an Army Reservist serving as the Headquarters Company Commander in the 1401st Benguet Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion.

In his decades of service, he is among the reservists who respond to the call of duty during calamities.

In the recent Tropical Storm “Maring” that beset the country, he and other reservists braved the landslide area in Barangay Dominican-Mirador, Baguio City, to retrieve two missing children despite the harsh environment due to bad weather.

1st Lt. Tumapang and his team saved dozens of affected residents and helped hundreds more recover after the storm.

Grounded in the principles of volunteerism, 1st Lt. Tumapang believes that commitment, participation, and love of country motivate reservists to perform their role and accomplish their mission as part of the Reserve Force of the Philippine Army.

Red is from the Cordillera Administrative Region. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the St. Louis University in Baguio city. He also has an International Interprofessional Wound Care Course at the University of Toronto in Canada. He has been an Overseas Filipino Worker for five years.
