Several parents at a private school in Baguio City have expressed frustration over the misinformation written in the textbooks of their Grade 7 children.
One parent, whom we will conceive by the name “Esther”, presented evidence of misinformation and misspelling in her child’s book. The book shows “Banana Rice Tereces” which should have been “Banaue Rice Terraces”.
These parents are worried that their children are going to private school, but the book used here seems to be of poor quality.
They fear that if this is not corrected, the students will have the wrong information in their minds. This can be found on page 103 of their book on MAPEH.
In the meantime, this issue has reached the Department of Education and they have found this error in the book themselves.
Keep in mind this is not the first time there has been “error” or misinformation written in DepEd books. Just last year, Igorots were portrayed as small, dark, and curly-haired people.
According to DepEd’s regional office, the same error was resolved last year.
The DepEd has already issued a memorandum on September 28 of this year requiring that the information in the book be reviewed before it can be published.
Institutions that violate this proposal will not be granted a permit to operate.
All books in the wrong context are expected to be submitted to DepEd for investigation.
