Chief Antonio using the typewriter (Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904) | Igorotage
Antonio, chief of the Bontoc Igorotes from the Philippines, was a popular figure at the Fair. People found his clothing, headdress, and jewelry exotic. They wanted to see for themselves the scarification on his chest and shoulders. While at the Fair Antonio, one of the Igorot chiefs, was given a typewriter. Antonio could be seen using it. At the end of the Fair, Antonio and Datto Facundo, chief of the Samal Moros, were the only two chiefs to receive gold medals from the Philippines Jury.
