Gregory A. Chulsi, Igorot from Kalinga, is class Top 1 of Philippine NAVSOCOM SEAL Qualification Training Course 09.
ENS Gregory A. Chulsi 0-19297 PN, a proud Igorot hailing from Tabuk City, Kalinga, is the class Top 1 of the Philippine Naval Special Operations Command (NAVSOCOM) SEAL QUALIFICATION TRAINING COURSE 09.
ENS Chulsi was awarded a Medal of Merit for being the class “Honorman” having garnered the highest grade point average of 90.75 in all academics and non-academic courses of instruction in a class of Twenty eight (28) students of SEAL Qualification Training Class 09.
The award was presented to ENS Chulsi by CAPT Dwight Steven M Dulnoan PN(GSC), the Igorot Commander of NAVSOCOM, on March 29, 2021, at Headquarters Naval Special Operations Command, Naval Base Cavite, Sangley Point, Cavite City.
Chulsi belongs to the Top 15 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “ALAB TALA” (Alagad ng Lahing Binigkis ng Tapang at Lakas) Class of 2018.
Gregory is also the first cousin of SANO V CHULSI, Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) Class of 2020 Top 9.
The Naval Special Operations Command (NAVSOCOM), formerly Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG), is a separate command of the Philippine Navy trained in special operations, sabotage, psychological and unconventional warfare and is heavily influenced by the United States Navy SEALs.
This special unit specializes in SEa, Air, Land (SEAL) operations ranging from reconnaissance, close combat, demolition, intelligence, and underwater operations in support of overall naval operations. The unit gained prominence in several counter-terrorism operations, most notably against the Abu Sayyaf Group, and is known for its highly-demanding physical training program which is based on the United States Navy SEAL program.
The Filipino counterpart of the U.S. counterterrorist United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group, abbreviated as DEVGRU (DEVelopment GRoUp) and commonly known as SEAL Team Six, is the Philippine Naval Special Reaction Group (SRG), which operates under the direction of Naval Intelligence.
