Corporal Gener Tinangag, an Igorot Marine from Barlig, Mountain Province, was posthumously awarded the Medal for Valor, the Philippines’ highest military honor, for his heroic sacrifice during the Marawi siege in 2017.
Tinangag was part of a Marine unit that was tasked with clearing a building that was occupied by enemy forces. As the unit was advancing, they came under heavy fire from the enemy.
