On the trail through Northern Luzon, 1924, The Philippines. Frank G. Carpenter being carried in seat by natives, 3 men on ponies, 1 native holding rifle. Frank G. Carpenter (1855 – 1924) was an author, photographer, lecturer, collector of photographs. Carpenter was a writer of standard geography textbooks and lecturer on geography, and wrote a series of books called Carpenter’s World Travels which were very popular between 1915 and 1930. According to John Tewell, this man died the year this photo was taken so he probably was in ill health and unable to walk or ride a horse.
